First Pan-India Luxury Train to begin Operations in 3. Quarter of 2009 The pan-India luxury train will offer passengers two specially designed itineraries which will offer the discerning traveller, an introduction into the diversity and cultural heritage of India.

The first is the Princely India Tour which is a seven-night itinerary that follows the Mumbai-Ahmedabad-Udaipur-Jodhpur-Jaisalmer-Jaipur-Delhi route.

The second is the Classical India tour which is also a seven-night itinerary through Delhi-Agra-Gwalior-Khajuraho-Varanasi &Patna.


The luxury train will carry nearly 100 passengers in 15 passenger coaches and will also boast two bars, two restaurants, an ultra modern kitchen and a boutique.

Pan-India?s first luxury train has many firsts to its credit:

  • First to have four different classes of passenger accommodation: Deluxe; Suites; Super Deluxe Suites; Luxury Suites; and Presidential Suites.  One whole carriage will accommodate the Presidential Suite.
  • State of the art pneumatic and hydraulic suspension system ensuring smoother train ride.
  • All passenger cabins to have micro processor based climatic control.
  • Environment friendly toilet system. First amongst luxury trains.

The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), and Cox and Kings India Ltd., (CKIL), have signed a joint venture agreement to create a company which will operate and manage the first pan-India luxury train.

The newly formed company called the Royale Indian Rail Tours Ltd., will oversee all of the trains operations once they begin in the third quarter of 2009.

IRCTC Managing Director, Dr Nalin Shinghal expressed his belief that the new train would present a landmark in the growth of luxury tourism in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Cox and Kings Managing Director, Peter Kerkar said, ?We welcome IRCTC?s initiative in breaking state boundaries for a luxury train. We are happy and excited on being selected as their partner in this venture that shall redefine luxury trains not just in India but the world.??
