With more than 300 events already secured for 2012, which are expected to attract more than 200,000 local and international delegates and visitors, the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) is gearing up for a busy 12 months.
Coming soon on the business front, the Investing in Africa Mining Indaba 2012 conference takes place in February, serving a predicted audience of 6,000 people from across the African continent and beyond.
This event, which is attended by key mining industry players and investment gurus, is just one of the many prestigious conferences that the centre will be hosting. Others include:
– The UFI Open Seminar and Expo Summit in Africa 2012 in March
– The Congress of World Association for Infant Mental Health 2012 (WAIMH) in April
– The World Trade Centre Conference and Trade Fair in May
– The 30th international Congress of Psychology, which is expected to attract over 6,000 international delegates in July
– The International Academy of Pathology, which will see an anticipated 2,000 delegates descend in Cape Town in June
On the exhibition front, highlights include repeat shows such as the Design Indaba Expo, expected to draw 16,000 people, the Good Food and Wine Show 2012 and Decorex 2012.
“Over the past two years, we have seen a significant increase in the number of special events that the centre has hosted,” said Joey Pather, CTICC’s chief operating officer. “We recently hosted the 33rd Loeries Awards, the Deadmau5 Concert and Ministry of Sound.”
The CTICC will once again be the venue for the 13th Cape Town International Jazz Festival in March and, in July, the centre’s exhibition halls will be transformed into an ice rink, when Disney on Ice comes to Cape Town.
“We expect this trend to continue in 2012 and the CTICC expansion will allow the centre to attract a greater share of the international meetings and events market, thereby unlocking further economic benefits for Cape Town and the Western Cape,” Pather added.
